Essays & Book Reviews

Alehouse is happy to consider queries for both essays and book reviews.  Our essay topics focus on the current state of poetry, the work of particular authors, the personal experience of poets, plus other appropriate areas of interest.  For our 2009 issue, we are especially interested in essays on African-American poets and poetry.   Query us with an idea

Our book reviews focus on work published since 2007, but also include older, under-appreciated work that reviewers may want to promote to our readers. Our essays run approximately 500-2000 words, our book reviews run approximately 500-1000 words per title.  Please contact us for our book review guidelines.
